A friend of mine is attempting to make a webpage that has a game for a 2x2 grid that is similar to the old North, South, East, West game. I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Essentially, the game would do this.

Supersampling

A player starts on coordinate 0,0 and moves around the grid. This grid coordinate would be white while the rest are black. Here is a diagram:. Once a the player moves, things change. When a player moves from a square, that square becomes yellow. Here is a new diagram to illustrate this moving from 0,0 to 0,1 :. Once a player uncovers a square, the square cannot be black again. Also, the coordinate 0,0 can never be black since the player starts there. There can only be one white square at any given time.

I have tried, but I just cannot seem to understand how this would work. The best I could come up with was:. I derived this from the fact that each box can only be one of two colors at any given time and the first box cannot be one of those colors black. Is there a better way to approach this? Is there a more general way that will work for different sized grids 3x3, 4x4, and etc?

If I have understood the rules of your game, the configuration of the board, depends on the particular movements that make the player. I'll number the squares like this:. The following paths yield different color configurations of the board: 1, 12, 13, These paths don't cover the whole board, that is, there are black squares left.

If you pass through every square, every square is yellow, except one that is white. I don't know how to count connected sets in a board. That is, there is only 1 arrangement with three B's i.

Note, this answer depends on the player being able to move to any square on any turn. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. I am using a position ing here, which the OP needs for full height view. If you see the full screen version, it is totally responsive.

LukeBriggs Yes! LukeBriggs You know what? I guess the OP ran away! Never mind, i managed to get it to work, just needed to change the position to relative. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Sign up using Facebook.

These pixels all have the same size, and each one has a single color. A line can only be shown as a collection of pixels, and therefore appears jagged unless it is perfectly horizontal or vertical. The aim of supersampling is to reduce this effect. Color samples are taken at several instances inside the pixel not just at the center as normaland an average color value is calculated. This is achieved by rendering the image at a much higher resolution than the one being displayed, then shrinking it to the desired size, using the extra pixels for calculation.

The result is a downsampled image with smoother transitions from one line of pixels to another along the edges of objects. The number of samples determines the quality of the output. Common signal processing and image processing knowledge suggests that to achieve perfect elimination of aliasingproper spatial sampling at the Nyquist rate or higher after applying a 2D Anti-aliasing filter is required. As this approach would require a forward and inverse fourier transformationcomputationally less demanding approximations like supersampling were developed to avoid domain switches by staying in the spatial domain "image domain".

Supersampling is computationally expensive because it requires much greater video card memory and memory bandwidthsince the amount of buffer used is several times larger. Initially only a few samples are taken within each pixel. If these values are very similar, only these samples are used to determine the color. If not, more are used. The result of this method is that a higher number of samples are calculated only where necessary, thus improving performance.

When taking samples within a pixel, the sample positions have to be determined in some way. Although the number of ways in which this can be done is infinite, there are a few ways which are commonly used.

Grid algorithm in uniform distribution. Quasi-Monte Carlo method algorithm. The simplest algorithm. The pixel is split into several sub-pixels, and a sample is taken from the center of each. It is fast and easy to implement. Although, due to the regular nature of sampling, aliasing can still occur if a low number of sub-pixels is used. Also known as stochastic sampling, it avoids the regularity of grid supersampling.

However, due to the irregularity of the pattern, samples end up being unnecessary in some areas of the pixel and lacking in others. Again an algorithm that places the samples randomly, but then checks that any two are not too close. The end result is an even but random distribution of samples. However, the computational time required for this algorithm is too great to justify its use in real-time rendering unless the sampling itself is computationally expensive compared to the positioning the sample points or the sample points are not repositioned for every single pixel.

A modification of the grid algorithm to approximate the Poisson disc. A pixel is split into several sub-pixels, but a sample is not taken from the center of each, but from a random point within the sub-pixel. Congregation can still occur, but to a lesser degree. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Not to be confused with Poisson sampling. Retrieved Generally speaking, SSAA provides exceptional image quality, but the performance hit is major here because the scene is rendered at a very high resolution.By using our site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Cookie PolicyPrivacy Policyand our Terms of Service.

Both men have famously claimed to wear the same clothes every day to eliminate decisions.

It's one more minute they don't have to spend deliberating. There is some correlation between leadership and decision making that is worth exploring. One of the biggest differences between good and great leaders is their ability to make sound decisions. Consideration takes time, but time is money. How do we become efficient in this decision-making process -- and by efficient, I mean being able to objectively evaluate all our options at that time and choose the best or least bad option? Most of us do not have the immense responsibility of being a world leader, or bringing social media to the entire planet, but at our individual levels, we are all burdened with the enormity of decision making.

I have found one particular tool that helps me in evaluating my options in a more objective manner, and eases the process of decision making: the simple 2x2 grid. At the end of the day, why is the task of decision-making so enormous?

It boils down to being able to evaluate your options and selecting the best one. The 2x2 grid, made famous by Boston Consulting Grouphelps me evaluate my options. It was used to place the various units of a company in relation to their growth rate and market share. But the application of this 2x2 grid reaches far and wide, and its utility varies based on our mode of thinking.

For example, we are aware of the "risk versus reward" scenarios, the most common application being in gambling. The higher amount you bet, the more you can win - or lose. The 2x2 grid can easily be used to evaluate a few different options we may have in our business or personal life to determine which opportunities can give us a relatively higher reward with low risk. In the specific case of engineering, speed and quality are inversely proportional.

If you focus on shipping multiple features ASAP, then there will be quality issues in the code which will be uncovered later known as technical debt. This is a dilemma all teams face and something that is only determined by the top management.

Using the grid below, we can analyze where we stand, and corrective measures can be taken more easily. This also becomes very relevant in analyzing various situations in our business.

The late Andy Grove, former CEO of Intel, perhaps had the biggest influence on all the great business leaders of today. This can also be demonstrated more visually in the form of a 2x2 grid to determine whether we have the right person in the right job:.

In an HR context, this tool becomes an effective way for leaders to analyze why some people are getting fired, and others are quitting. Alternatively, it can become a proactive periodic exercise by an HR department to make sure people with the right skill sets have been placed in the right positions.

If you're like me, you receive more than a hundred emails each day from different sources: boss, colleagues, vendors, team members, spam, even personal - but it's not possible or even desirable to give equal importance to all of them. Usually, "important" is confused with "urgent" so many of the emails we receive are marked as "urgent. How do I get that multiple video.

I have users reporting the same issue. Is this related to the screen size or resolution of the client device? Similarly for me I have a regular meeting with five people and half of us see four video feeds while the other half only see one feed.

In other platforms there is a button to choose which is preferred but I can't see anything in Teams. Am I missing a setting, or is it determined automatically according to criteria I can't guess, or is it a bug? It makes sense that the browser version would limit itself in this way - I just wish there was some kind of notification to this effect it would also encourage more people to try the app.

I believe the solution is to use the Microsoft Teams app as opposed to a webpage. Some language online refers to the app as client. I verified this through a team video conference where team members using the app was able to see up to 4 screens of the last ones to speak. My screen through a webpage on Chrome only showed the last 1 person speak.
