It acts as a fast, volatile memory for your operating system to access data. However, the speeds they can write and read at are mind-boggling, even compared to modern NVMe flash SSDs, which is what makes them so useful.
In fact, a relatively inexpensive MHz memory module is at least times faster than the fastest flash storage you can buy today. It is used for everything you do on a PC. Each successive iteration improves upon its predecessor. The number given with this unit is simply the maximum cycles per second it can handle.
So, a memory rated at MHz is capable of performing 3. There are many factors at play when it comes to memory speeds in real-world usage. However, as a simple rule of thumb, faster memory clocks will usually be faster than RAM with lower memory clocks. Avoiding this is important because manufacturers will often try to sell you overpriced memory kits using marketing jargon and ultra-high clock speed specifications.
Before we begin breaking down timings, visualize your RAM as a simple spreadsheet with rows and columns to simplify things. In the above case, your actual data rate is the double of listed DRAM frequency, i.
Using it is pretty straightforward. Every memory module you buy is manufactured by one of three companies — Samsung, Hynix, or Micron. The DRAM calculator detects the grade and manufacturer of your memory die before suggesting memory timings that should work. As you can see, you can calculate a safe timing, a fast timing, and an extreme timing. These timings have to be set in your BIOS. With the launch of mammoth 32GB memory modules, you can now run an astounding amount of RAM in your system.
However, do you need all that much? The amount of RAM you need depends on the primary goal of your PC build as well as the applications you use. Are you building a PC to render high-quality video footage or complex scenes? A QVL, or Qualified Vendor List, is a list published by motherboard manufacturers that categorically reveals the memory modules that were tested by them and are confirmed to be working at their rated speeds.
See those series of numbers and alphabets in the brackets at the end? You can see multiple versions of this same memory module tested on the X Creation Motherboard, even in 4-module configurations. Absolutely not. Cross-referencing a serial number with a QVL is just a way to guarantee the rated clock speed of your memory kit on your motherboard.Trusted Reviews may earn an affiliate commission when you purchase through links on our site.

Available in multiple colours and is currently with a massive saving on Amazon. Out of the 15 kits that we tested, there are three that stood out.Let's talk about our big mistake... - AMD Ryzen 2nd vs 3rd Gen
This high-end kit is designed around performance rather than aesthetics, and is certainly the best when it comes to high-end speed and performance. Elsewhere, latency comes in atand the kit is available in white, blue or red variations to match your machine. The decision to concentrate on speed rather than performance has paid off.
Its Geekbench results were barely behind the Team Group kit, but better than my three other high-end picks. The Corsair kit delivered a Ghost Recon average of Its theoretical results are often the best in the high-end group, and no other expensive kit can offer the balance and speed that Corsair has served up across real-world application and gaming tests.
Its Cinebench multi-core result of cb is one the best of any of the budget kits, and no other kit could offer faster and more balanced pace in the Geekbench tests. The Ballistix kit may be one of the most affordable kits, but benchmarks indicate that it still offers ample performance in the majority of tasks — this 16GB, MHz kit will handle applications and work, with few bits of software that really need anything more in your average, consumer-grade system.
That makes it the affordable DDR4 choice. Oddly enough, the best mid-range kit also offers one of the smallest capacities in the entire group — a modest 8GB spread across two sticks. Instead of increasing size, Team Group has ramped up the speed. Its MHz classification puts it right at the top of the table when it comes to mid-range DDR4 kits. This is a little more expensive than some of its rivals, but not by enough to dent your wallet.
This kit serves up latency figures, and it certainly looks the part. It arrives in a smart box, and the sticks themselves are made of black metal, with a chunky heatsink on top and milled red hexagons down both sides.
The Team Group kit looks good and performs solidly.Menu Menu. Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Search titles only. Search Advanced search…. Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Darkbreeze Titan Moderator. Jun 24, 59, 2,7, They don't know what they are talking about. It's either compatible with the standard of your motherboard and CPU, or it's not. If your board and cpu use DDR2, that's what you get. It's likely they are not technically inclined and since the system it was removed from was an AMD system, that's what they're calling it. Pretty much all motherboards have a product page somewhere that lists the specifications and what memory is supported.Menu Menu.

Jun 24, 59, 2,7, In other words, just because your memory runs at mhz instead of mhz does not mean your CPU will automagically overclock itself to 3.
It MIGHT however make it "seem" to run faster, since it will be able to do things more quickly without waiting on memory operations.AMD recently raised the bar for memory support with the latest Ryzen series processors, and we know how past Ryzen processors just love speedy memory. The third-generation Ryzen chips arrive with native support for the DDR standard out of the box. AMD has previously shared other recommendations for the brave that want to pursue higher performance.
But there are certain considerations if you're looking for the best plug and play experience with DDR memory modules. It doesn't matter if you use single-rank or dual-rank DDR memory kits.
However, things start to get complicated when you start filling all four memory slots. When all four memory slots are populated with single-rank memory modules, the official memory speed drops to DDR Do you have to follow ASRock's recommendations to the letter?
Enthusiasts have been defying hardware manufacturers' specifications for ages now. But if you don't feel like playing the silicon lottery or spending time tweaking, then you should probably listen to ASRock's advice though.

See all comments Uh, this looks less like a 'recommended' or 'optimal' memory config from ASRock and more like the officially rated maximums from AMD. TJ Hooker said:.

Are you working from home? Verifying how much memory can be added to your computer model. Installing memory in your desktop computer. What to do if problems occur after installing memory. Maximum memory supported by operating system. Memory module frequently asked questions. Buying computer memory. This document pertains to HP and Compaq desktop computers. Upgrading memory helps improve system performance.
By following the step-by-step instructions in this document, you can successfully upgrade random-access memory RAM for all HP and Compaq desktop and Slimline computers. While the graphics might not match your specific computer model, the steps will work.
Finding memory information for your computer model amount installed, maximum allowed, and type of memory Important memory upgrade information is in the specifications document for your HP computer. The right Ram can have a big impact on the overall performance you can achieve. This includes AMD's latest series of processors.
That memory has to pull data from somewhere and thus memory becomes more crucial than ever to AMD's third-generation processors. This already makes a big difference. For Ryzen's first generation, I'd have probably recommended that you not only be choosy about your memory but your motherboard too. This time around, my main recommendation is that you go with a kit that achieves at least MHz speeds preferably with CL And going with a MHz stock kit should allow you to get most of the performance improvement available if you're willing to put in the time.
If you spend a lot of time editing videos or photos this could end up saving you time and money. Check through all of the options on our list below in order to get the best deal. These are all confirmed Samsung E-die options for G.

If you can get them for a reasonable price, they might be preferable to other options for your particular build. Also be sure to take into consideration the option below. As this is one of the most popular kits on the market, I wanted to make sure that this model number was addressed here. First, it's a decent option. However, it comes with C18 so my preference, especially if you don't plan on tweaking anything, would be for you to choose one of the TridentZ kits.
Of course, the RGB isn't necessary; however, the fact that you get high-speed memory here for a decent price is the key. Overall, this is one of the first kits I'd tell you to buy if you're looking to get 16GB or more at high speeds.
It's readily available, inexpensive, and well-known enough to work well with pretty much any motherboard out there. However, we prefer TridentZ listed above for Ryzen 3rd Gen. While speed can give you a performance boost here's a quick trick to make the most out of an inexpensive MHz kit. Can't afford high-speed memory or don't have it available in your area? You can get most of the performance out of Ryzen by using a low latency kit and focusing on overclocking your infinity fabric!
However, depending on where you live, you may find that the difference in price between MHz and or even MHz and Mhz is minimal. Need to save some money?
